Recognition Assembly

This afternoon we took time to appreciate our Lenten Journey and to recognize the gifts in our school community.  We gathered in prayer and reflected on our support for our Haiti Mission Project.  This was followed by an enthusiastic display of student talents and was topped off with some House League fun.  Thanks to our Student Ambassadors for leading us in today's activities.

Check out your House League Team.

Girls Basketball Season

The girls basketball team had a very successful season.

The girls were able to advance to the championship game of the Brennan Tournament and enjoyed some great games throughout the year.   We started the year off with a very inexperienced group and ended the year with a close playoff loss to St. William's.  The season can be summed up in the words of one of the grade eight girls. "I think I kinda like basketball now!"

Thank you to the referees and score keepers who made the games possible and to Mr. Foglia and Mr. Charlton for their work with the team this season.

Boys Basketball Season

Our senior boy's basketball team was made up of 13 individuals who had proven themselves in a three day try-out practice that involved 19 players.  Throughout the long season, our boys showed a high level of commitment to improve their skill sets in all areas of the game.  Practices focused on getting them to learn a variety of offensive set plays, inbound plays, fast break plays and simple motion plays; all of which took time and effort to master properly.  As always, it was a pleasure to see players improve their level of play over time.  In addition, much was said during practice and exhibition play about good sportsmanship and what it means to play as a team.
During this basketball season, our players were afforded extra games outside the normal regular exhibition season and this provided them with more opportunities to grow as a team.  Needless to say we were certainly ready for the playoffs.  During our playoff game, our boy's played extremely hard at both ends of the court against a very solid and determined OLPH squad.  Good defence and well timed rebounds kept us in the game.  Our second team needs to be commended on their play for keeping the score close throughout the game.  In fact the score was tied to start the 4th quarter !!!  Although our boys played with high energy and enthusiasm, they were eventually defeated by OLPH.  I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate our players on a fun and exciting basketball season !

Thank you to the referees and score keepers who made the games possible and to Mr. Liburdi for his work with the team this season.
